Vintage mannequins are a style of mannequin, designed to mimic the aesthetic of mannequins from the 20th century. Designed to look antique, vintage mannequins are typically made from papier mache, covered in hand-dyed coffee or tea stained fabric. These mannequins may have arms made out of oak, walnut or raw wood with limited articulation to mimic the static posture of older mannequins.
To create an authentic vintage appearance, these mannequins may also feature patina or distressing techniques to give them an aged look.
Our collection of vintage mannequins is upholstered in natural calico that is expertly stained and distressed using age-old techniques which have remained our best-kept secret for over two decades.
Each piece of display equipment is handmade at our London factory using eco-friendly manufacturing methods and materials, delivering unique, high-quality products that don’t date.
As well as our Vintage Collection, our Harlequin range offers a similar look and feel, but with the addition of fibreglass or Ecoform legs and wooden arms.
In order to make our modern mannequins appear vintage, we finish them using non-toxic stains. Both of our stain options have organic pigments that create unique shading. Choosing between them will depend on the colour and depth desired.
Both our ‘Tea Stain’ and ‘Coffee Stain’ finishes are distressed to give the fabric its character and aged appearance.
Our ‘Tea Stain’ finish offers a more subtle option. It has a gentle, naturally aged look with a warm honey colour. The lighter application gives it a slightly cloudy and touchable texture, while a stronger application is used to make the seams look sun-aged.
Of the two finishes, this one stands out as the shiniest. It has a slight translucency, allowing the fabric’s natural beauty to shine through, accentuated by the warm caramel hue. Its unique ability to layer on the richness makes it the ideal choice if you want to achieve a bold and striking final look.

Historians debate over the origin of this nickname. However, it is widely believed that it is after 1950s television personality, Judy Lee. Judy’s figure was considered “perfect,” and she was the real-life model for a particular mannequin referred to as ‘the Judy’. Her ‘perfect’ form was adopted as the standard, and subsequently, dress forms of this style came to be known as ‘Judys.’
